OCPP: Sri Lanka Remote Sensing and Habitat Mapping 2025

Abstract

The Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) has worked in collaboration with Northumbria University, to use remote sensing and habitat mapping techniques to map the national extent and distribution of seagrass in Sri Lanka.

To support this, the following resource is available:

  • Sri Lanka Seagrass Mapping Training: Workshop Report: A report summarising the four day remote sensing and habitat mapping training workshop delivered to Sri Lankan colleagues between the 17 and 20 June 2025.
  • World Seagrass Day video. National Seagrass Habitat Map Development for Sri Lanka: For World Seagrass Day, on 1 March 2025, Northumbria University created a short video to be shown at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Environment National Event to commemorate the day and highlight importance of seagrass in Sri Lanka.
