Abstract

This report summarises the special session "Building a regional Alliance for LMMAs in the WIO" held at the 13th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium in Mombasa, Kenya in September 2025. The session was led by IUCN and funded through the Madagascar partnership of the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP).

The report covers the aims of the session, as well as the scientific evidence, recommendations, linkages to COP 12 & other global agendas, and outputs discussed during the session. In addition to documenting the scientific evidence presented, this report serves as an important channel for highlighting recommendations that can inform regional science-policy processes.
